Nature Detectives: A Family Nature Experience

Join us for an exciting journey into nature with your family! This self-guided event promises 9 interactive stations where you can unravel nature's mysteries at your own pace. Can you master the art of camouflage? Ever wondered how a pond strider effortlessly floats? Decode the secrets of peculiar nature items!

Location:

Mandarin Park

14780 Mandarin Rd, Jacksonville, FL 32223, USA

Directions: When you enter the park, follow the main road for about one mile, then take your first left into the parking loop. We will meet either in the clearing, or the large picnic pavilion, depending on weather.

What to Expect

Each station poses an open-ended question related to nature, plants, or animals. Students will rotate between stations and use their creativity and skills of deduction to complete models, create art, solve puzzles, and more. Respond using the materials provided and your nature know-how! Return your completed field guide to receive a detective's magnifier to take home.

How long will it take?

Plan for 50 - 60 minutes to complete all 9 stations. We will take a short hike around the area when we are done with the stations to see some real examples in nature.

Who is this for?

While designed with families with elementary-aged children in mind, everyone is welcome to join in the fun!

Children 8 and under must be accompanied by an adult.

What should I bring?

Just your thinking cap and a positive attitude! We've got everything else covered. Optionally, you might want to bring a water bottle to stay refreshed, and wear shoes you are comfortable walking in.
