Think Like a Scientist!

Our on-site environmental education programs strive to promote curiosity-driven learning. All of our classes offer hands-on experiments and activities tailored to each group. We will bring our exciting science and nature programs to your students in an outdoor classroom, where they can learn by seeing and doing.

Pond Ecology

Students will use their skills of observation to learn about the many plants and animals that are adapted to a freshwater environment. They will safely catch critters around the pond and attempt to identify them.

Estuary
Explorers

Students will think like a scientist to learn what makes the estuary so special. They will use their skills of observation to make inferences and catch many amazing creatures to study.

On the Shoreline

Students will learn about the wide variety of plants and animals that call the shore home. We will incorporate some chemistry and water testing, and a guided crustacean dissection. Students will safely catch critters in the surf and attempt to identify them.

COVID-19 and Facial Coverings

All of our programs are fully outdoors in a space that allows for social distancing. Facial coverings and masks are optional for families that attend. We are also limiting the size of our programs to make it easier to social distance. At all of our programs we provide hand sanitizer or a hand washing station to encourage safe practices. If you or your child are feeling any cold symptoms, we ask that you not attend the program. Please reach out via email to inform us and we will handle this on a case by case basis.

Dress Code: Children should dress appropriately for the activities scheduled. Jax Dragonfly Academy recommends shorts and a light weight shirt or top for hot weather, and some type of athletic shoe or sneaker in order to participate in recreational or athletic activities. Jax Dragonfly Academy recommends an umbrella or jacket for rainy days, as we will still be outside. Sandals, flip-flops, rubber “crocs”-style shoes, and other open-toed shoes are not recommended as acceptable attire for active recreation activities.
